Discover more about Macky Auditorium Concert Hall

Macky Auditorium Concert Hall, a cornerstone of the University of Colorado Boulder campus, stands as a testament to the city's vibrant cultural scene. Completed in 1922, the auditorium's history began with a generous bequest from Andrew J. Macky, a Boulder pioneer and gold rush settler, who left $300,000 to the University for its construction. The auditorium was built in the Neo-Gothic style, incorporating different elements from around the world, as chosen by CU's president at the turn of the 20th century. Its primary materials are sandstone and red tile, blending with the campus architecture, while its two massive towers and ivy-covered walls make it stand out. Macky Auditorium has a seating capacity of over 2,000, including ADA seating. Throughout its history, Macky Auditorium has hosted a wide range of performances and speakers, including Eleanor Roosevelt, the Dalai Lama, Yo-Yo Ma, Jane Goodall, Robin Williams, and Neil deGrasse Tyson. It serves as home to the CU College of Music's programs, CU Presents' Artist Series, and the Conference on World Affairs. The Auditorium is also used by the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, Boulder Ballet, and other organizations. Macky Auditorium underwent a major renovation in 1986, which improved the stage and rigging, added new seating and custom carpeting, and modernized the plumbing and added an elevator. In 2011, a fire suppression system and cooling system were added.
