Smuggler Mountain: Aspen's Iconic Hiking Destination

Smuggler Mountain, a prominent landmark overlooking Aspen, Colorado, blends natural beauty with a rich history. The mountain's story mirrors that of Aspen itself, transitioning from a pristine landscape inhabited by the Ute people to a bustling silver mining center in the late 19th century. The Smuggler Mine, established in 1879, became one of Aspen's most productive and longest-operating mines, significantly contributing to the town's early prosperity and even producing a massive 1,840-pound silver nugget.
