Once a silver mining hub in the late 1800s, it now provides easily accessible trails for hikers, bikers, and dog walkers. The moderate climb to the observation deck makes it a favorite for locals and tourists alike.

Walking
From downtown Aspen, walk east on Highway 82 (Cooper Street). Turn left onto Park Avenue, then turn right onto Park Circle. Continue on Park Circle until you reach Smuggler Mountain Road on the left. The trailhead is a short distance up Smuggler Mountain Road. The walk from downtown Aspen is approximately 1 mile and should take about 20-30 minutes.
Public Transport
Take the free Hunter Creek bus from Rubey Park Transit Center to the Smuggler Mountain Road stop. From the bus stop, walk a short distance up Smuggler Mountain Road to reach the trailhead. The bus ride is approximately 5-10 minutes, and buses run frequently. There is no cost for the bus.
Taxi/Ride-Share
Take a taxi or ride-share from anywhere in Aspen to the Smuggler Mountain trailhead at the base of Smuggler Mountain Road. The taxi ride from downtown Aspen is approximately 5 minutes and costs around $8-$11. Note that ride-share services like Uber and Lyft are not widely available in Aspen.
