Getting There

Driving
From Manitou Springs, follow US-24 W. Take the exit for Fountain Avenue and follow signs for Pikes Peak Highway. The highway is a 19-mile scenic drive to the summit. Note that a timed-entry permit is required to drive past mile marker 7. Entry fees vary depending on the season; from May 1 to November 30, it costs $15 for adults, $5 for children (6-15), or $50 per car (up to 5 passengers). From December 1 to April 30, it costs $10 for adults, $5 for children, or $35 per car. Parking at the summit is limited, and a free shuttle service may be in operation from designated parking areas (Mile Marker 7 or 16). Shuttle wait times are typically 5-10 minutes.

Cog Railway
The Broadmoor Manitou & Pikes Peak Cog Railway provides a scenic train journey to the summit from Manitou Springs. From US-24 W in Manitou Springs, follow Ruxton Avenue to the Cog Railway station. Advance reservations are highly recommended. Parking at the Cog Railway is $20, located across the street from the depot. City lots typically cost $10-20. A round-trip ticket costs $62.50 for adults and $52.50 for children (3-12).

Public Transport
From downtown Colorado Springs, take the Mountain Metro Transit Route 39 to Manitou Springs. From there, transfer to the free Manitou Springs Shuttle to reach the base of Pikes Peak. Route 39 fare is $1.75. From the base, you can either hike the Barr Trail (a strenuous 13-mile hike) or take the Cog Railway to the summit.
