Discover more about Estes Park Memorial Observatory

The Estes Park Memorial Observatory (EPMO) is a community resource dedicated to fostering scientific education and serving as an educational venue for the community and visitors. Founded by Mike and Carole Connolly, along with their daughter Michele Johnson, the observatory serves as a memorial to their children and siblings, Thomas and Christian, who tragically passed away in 2005. The observatory features a 16-foot dome housing a high-quality 16-inch Ritchey-Chretien telescope with a Paramount ME II robotic mount. This advanced equipment allows for detailed observations of deep-sky objects. The EPMO also hosts lectures, videos, and open house nights, making astronomy accessible and engaging for everyone. Visitors can participate in private stargazing sessions and monthly meetings of the Estes Valley Astronomical Society (EVAS). The observatory also collaborates with the local school system and Rocky Mountain National Park for events throughout the year. The EPMO's goals include interesting kids in math, physics and science, using astronomy as a tool to accomplish these goals, making learning a fun experience and promoting critical thinking about really big things.
