This 1,447-seat proscenium theater, one of only seven Broadway-sized stages remaining in Connecticut, was built with funds willed to the city by Jacob B. Klein (1862-1932), a lawyer and active supporter of Bridgeport community organizations. The auditorium stands as a testament to Klein's vision for the "improvement and entertainment of the People of Bridgeport". Designed by local architect Leonard Asheim, the Klein showcases striking Art Deco architecture, featuring bronze doors, a marble lobby, inlaid wood, and geometric motifs. Throughout its history, the Klein has hosted a wide array of performances and speakers, including Leonard Bernstein, Eleanor Roosevelt, Martin Luther King Jr., and B.B. King.
