If you are in downtown Greenwich, start at the Greenwich Train Station. Exit the station and head east on East Putnam Avenue (Route 1). Continue walking along East Putnam Avenue for about 1.5 miles. You will pass several shops and restaurants along the way, which can be great for a quick stop. Keep walking until you reach 243 E Putnam Avenue. Putnam Cottage will be on your right, just after the intersection with North Maple Avenue.
Public Transport - Bus
From the Greenwich Train Station, you can take the local bus. Look for the 10 or 11 bus route that goes along East Putnam Avenue. Board the bus and inform the driver that you want to get off at Putnam Cottage or at the nearest stop to 243 E Putnam Avenue. The bus ride should take about 10-15 minutes. Once you get off, walk a short distance back towards the west, and Putnam Cottage will be on your left.
Biking
If you have access to a bicycle, you can ride from downtown Greenwich to Putnam Cottage. Start at the Greenwich Avenue and head east on East Putnam Avenue (Route 1). There are bike lanes available for most of the route. You will cover approximately 1.5 miles. As you ride, enjoy the scenic views of the shops and local architecture.
