The Ramble is a 38-acre woodland in the heart of Central Park, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux to evoke the feeling of a natural forest. With winding paths, diverse flora, and a meandering stream, it's a haven for birdwatchers and those seeking tranquility.
Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Walking
The Ramble is accessible from multiple points within Central Park. From Bethesda Terrace, cross Bow Bridge and follow the path north into the Ramble. Alternatively, enter from the west side near the Oak Bridge. No costs are associated with accessing the Ramble.
Public Transport
Take the B or C subway line to the 81st St-Museum of Natural History station or the 72nd St station. From either station, walk east into Central Park and follow signs towards The Ramble. Alternatively, take the 4, 5, or 6 train to 86th street and walk west into Central Park. Subway fare is $3 per ride. The M1, M2, M3, M4, M10, M96, M101, M106 and BxM2 buses also stop near Central Park's perimeter.
Taxi/Ride-share
Ask your driver to drop you off at Central Park West and 79th Street or Fifth Avenue and 79th Street. From there, walk into the park towards The Ramble. A taxi or ride-share from Midtown Manhattan will typically cost $15-25, depending on traffic.
