Soldiers and Sailors Monument: A Tribute to Valor

Getting There

• Walking

  If you are starting from the New Haven Green, head north on Church Street towards Elm Street. Turn left onto Elm Street and walk until you reach Orange Street. Turn right onto Orange Street and continue walking until you reach the intersection with Trumbull Street. Cross Trumbull Street and continue straight onto State Street. Walk for about 10 minutes until you reach the entrance of East Rock Park. Enter the park and follow the main path leading uphill towards the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. The monument is located at the summit of East Rock, and you will see it as you approach the top.

• Public Transport (Bus)

  From the New Haven Green, walk to the nearest bus stop on Church Street. Take the CT Transit Bus Route 222 towards East Rock. Get off at the stop closest to East Rock Park (look for East Rock Road). From the bus stop, walk towards the entrance of East Rock Park. Once in the park, follow the main path leading uphill towards the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, which is at the summit.

• Biking

  If you have a bike, start from the New Haven Green and head north on Church Street. Continue onto Elm Street and then turn right onto Orange Street. Follow Orange Street until you reach Trumbull Street, then turn right. Continue straight onto State Street and follow signs directing you to East Rock Park. Once you reach the park, bike along the roads leading to the monument, which is located at the top of East Rock. Be mindful of pedestrians and enjoy the scenic views along the way.
