Walking
From the center of Matavera, head towards the coast following the main road (Ara Tapu). Continue walking until you reach the intersection with the road that leads directly to the beach area. The Black Rock is located along the coast, so you will be able to see the beach as you approach. Keep walking until you see a clear path leading to the rocky outcrop. The total distance should be approximately 1.5 km, taking about 20-25 minutes on foot.

If you have a bicycle, start from the Matavera village center and cycle along the Ara Tapu road towards Avarua. After about 1 km, look for signs indicating the Black Rock area. The bike ride should take around 10-15 minutes, and you’ll enjoy the scenic views along the coast. Make sure to park your bicycle safely before heading to the rocky area.

Catch a local bus from the nearest bus stop in Matavera heading towards Avarua. Inform the driver that you want to get off at the stop closest to the Black Rock. The journey should take about 10-15 minutes. Once you get off, follow the signs towards the coast, and you will find the Black Rock located a short walk away from the bus stop.
