This historically significant site was once home to the Tinomana tribe, with the village abandoned in the early 1800s following the arrival of Christianity. Today, descendants of the original inhabitants have revitalized the 205-acre mountain refuge, offering visitors a unique glimpse into the island's pre-Christian past.Visitors can explore reconstructed tribal buildings, ancient monuments, and sacred sites while learning about the traditions, legends, and practices of the Cook Islands Maori.     Getting There

    Public Transport

    From Avarua, the main town, take the Rarotonga Bus heading west towards Arorangi. The bus departs from Cook's Corner hourly. A one-way ticket costs approximately NZ$5. Ask the driver to drop you off near Maungaroa Drive. From there, it's a 10-minute walk to Highland Paradise; follow the signs.

    Taxi

    Taxis are readily available throughout Rarotonga. A taxi ride from Avarua to Highland Paradise will cost approximately NZ$30-NZ$50. Agree on the fare with the driver before starting your journey. Several taxi services operate on the island, including PriceTaxis (+682 57303).

    Driving

    From Avarua, head west on Ara Tapu road (the main road) for approximately 7 km. Look for signs directing you to Arorangi and turn left onto Maungaroa Drive. Continue along Maungaroa Drive for about 1 km; Highland Paradise will be on your left. Ample parking is available on-site.
