Walking
From Avarua town center, head south on Ara Tapu road. After approximately 20-30 minutes, look for signs indicating the trail entrance to Te Rua Manga on your left. The trailhead is located at the end of Uruau Drive. Walking from town adds an additional 3km (1 mile) to your journey. Be prepared for a steep climb once you begin the hike, and ensure you have proper footwear and plenty of water.
Public Transport
Take the Rarotonga Public Bus from Avarua towards the southern part of the island. Ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest stop to Te Rua Manga, typically around Avarua. From the bus stop, it is about a 15-minute walk to the trailhead. Follow the signs toward the trail; the path is marked and leads directly to the entrance. Bus fare is approximately 5 NZD.
Taxi
From Avarua, a taxi to the trailhead at the end of Uruau Drive will take approximately 10-15 minutes. Expect to pay around 15-25 NZD for the ride. Note that taxi availability may be limited, especially during peak hours, so it's best to book in advance or arrange for a return trip.
