Walking
From the Nikao Beach area, head north along the coast. You will be walking on the main road, which is also known as Ara Tapu. Continue walking for about 20 minutes until you reach Avarua. As you approach the town, keep an eye out for the signs directing you toward Te Rua Manga (The Needle). Once in Avarua, you may need to ask locals for the exact path, as the trail leading to the attraction can be a bit hidden. Follow the marked trail to the base of the hill.

Bicycle
If you have access to a bicycle, start from Nikao Beach and cycle north along Ara Tapu road. It’s approximately a 10 to 15-minute ride to Avarua. Upon reaching Avarua, look for signs to Te Rua Manga. You will find a designated bike parking area near the trailhead. Once parked, follow the walking trail up to the viewpoint of Te Rua Manga.

Catch a local bus heading towards Avarua from the Nikao bus stop. The buses are frequent, and the journey will take about 10 minutes. Notify the driver that you want to get off near Te Rua Manga. Once you alight, follow the signs or ask locals for directions to the trailhead of Te Rua Manga. The walk from the bus stop to the trail is short, about 5 to 10 minutes.
