Discover more about Facilidades marinas del Parque Nacional Cahuita

Located on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, Cahuita National Park protects a stunning blend of tropical forest, white-sand beaches, and vibrant coral reefs. Established in 1970, the park safeguards a 600-acre reef, home to diverse marine species. The park's marine facilities serve as a crucial access point for exploring this underwater paradise. As you set off from the boat ramp, you'll enter a world teeming with marine life. Snorkelers and divers can witness colorful fish like parrotfish, angelfish, and butterflyfish darting among the coral. Sea turtles, rays, and even nurse sharks can be spotted in these protected waters. The Cahuita reef is the largest coral reef in Costa Rica and the second-largest in the world. While the park is renowned for its marine attractions, its terrestrial side is equally captivating. Hiking trails wind through the rainforest, offering opportunities to observe monkeys, sloths, iguanas, and various bird species. The combination of marine and terrestrial ecosystems makes Cahuita National Park a unique destination for nature lovers. However, the coral reef faces threats. An earthquake in 1991 caused significant damage, and fertilizer runoff from nearby banana plantations poses an ongoing challenge. Despite these challenges, the reef is showing signs of recovery, and conservation efforts are in place to protect this precious ecosystem. Visiting the marine facilities and Cahuita National Park offers a chance to witness the beauty of Costa Rica's Caribbean coast while supporting the preservation of its natural treasures.
