The beach is named after Charles William Biesanz, an American anthropologist who studied local communities and fell in love with Costa Rica.Biesanz Beach is ideal for swimming and snorkeling due to its sheltered bay, which protects it from strong waves. The calm waters make it a safe and enjoyable spot for families with children. Visitors can rent kayaks and snorkeling gear from local vendors on the beach. The surrounding rocky areas are teeming with marine life, offering excellent opportunities for underwater exploration.The beach is accessible via a scenic trail, adding to its secluded charm. The trail passes through lush vegetation, where visitors can spot monkeys, sloths, and various tropical birds. Getting There
Walking
From the main road (Route 618) between Quepos and Manuel Antonio, look for a gap in the fence near Hotel Parador. A small sign may indicate the entrance to Playa Biesanz. The trail descends for about 10-15 minutes through the jungle to the beach. The path can be steep and slippery in places, so wear appropriate footwear. This route is free.
Public Transport
From the Quepos bus station, take the bus towards Manuel Antonio National Park. Ask the driver to stop at the Playa Biesanz entrance. From the main road, walk down the gravel road for about 500 meters to reach the beach. The bus fare is approximately 250 colones. A separate bus runs periodically to Biesanz Beach and back for the same 250 colones.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available in Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Ask the driver to take you to Playa Biesanz, located near Hotel Parador. The taxi fare from Quepos to Biesanz Beach typically costs around 3,000-3,500 colones. From the drop-off point, walk down the trail to the beach.
Car
From Manuel Antonio, drive southeast on Route 618 towards Quepos. Look for signs to Playa Biesanz, about 1.5 km from the center of Manuel Antonio. Turn onto the gravel road leading to the beach and continue for about 500 meters to a small parking area. Parking on the street near the entrance to the trail typically costs 2,000-3,000 colones, with unofficial parking guards.
