Discover more about Playa Conchal

Playa Conchal, or Shell Beach, is located on Costa Rica's northern Pacific coast in Guanacaste Province. What sets Playa Conchal apart is its shoreline, made up of millions of tiny pink, white, and tan seashells, worn smooth by the ocean waves. This creates a dazzling effect in the sunlight, making it a favorite destination for both tourists and locals. Unlike many Costa Rican beaches with black lava sand, Playa Conchal offers a unique landscape of crushed shells. The beach stretches for approximately 4 kilometers around a protected bay, ensuring calm waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The crystal-clear waters teem with marine life, offering glimpses of colorful fish and manta rays. To the north, Playa Conchal borders Brasilito Beach, a more laid-back option with an authentic fishing village atmosphere. To the south, the beach extends towards Puerto Viejo, offering a quieter, more local experience. Visitors can rent beach chairs, umbrellas, and snorkeling equipment from local vendors. Massages are also available on the beach for those seeking ultimate relaxation. While there are no facilities directly on Playa Conchal, vendors offer drinks and food. While Playa Conchal is a popular destination, visiting during the week is recommended to avoid crowds. The dry season (December to April) sees the most visitors, while the rainy season (May to November) offers a quieter experience with cooler temperatures.
