Driving
The most convenient way to reach Playa Negra is by car. From Liberia International Airport (LIR), the drive is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Set Hotel Playa Negra as your destination in your GPS for the public access point. Be aware that the road after Route 152 is unpaved and has potholes; a 4x4 vehicle is recommended, especially during the rainy season. Parking is available near Hotel Playa Negra for approximately 2000 CRC.
Taxi
Taxis are available in Guanacaste, but Uber is more limited. A taxi from Liberia to Tamarindo, which is about 45 minutes from Playa Negra, costs around 28,887.04 CRC. From Tamarindo, arrange a private shuttle to Playa Negra, which takes approximately 30-50 minutes. Expect to pay around $150 for a taxi from Liberia Airport to Playa Negra. Always confirm the fare before starting your journey.
Public Transport
There are no direct public buses to Playa Negra. From San José, take a bus to Veintisiete de Abril (approximately $12-$16, 4h 47m) and transfer to Playa Negra. Alternatively, take a bus from San José to Santa Cruz (approximately $13-$17, 5h 45m) and then another bus to Playa Negra. Once in Los Pargos, Playa Negra is easily accessible by foot.
