Boat
The primary access to Tortuguero is by boat from either La Pavona or Moin. From San José, take a bus or shuttle to La Pavona (approx. 2.5 hours). Boats from La Pavona to Tortuguero village take around 1.5 hours. The boat fare is approximately ₡4,000 (USD $8) per person. There may be an additional small fee (around $2 USD) per bag. Alternatively, boats from Moin take approximately 3.5 hours. Moin is accessible from Puerto Viejo or Limon by bus or taxi. A taxi from Limon to Moin costs around $8-$10 USD.

Sansa Airlines offers daily flights from San José to Tortuguero. The flight is approximately 30 minutes and costs around $150 USD one way. From the Tortuguero airport, it is a short walk or boat ride to the village center.
