Car
From Tortuguero National Park, you will need to take a boat transfer to the nearest road access point. Head to the Tortuguero dock where you can hire a boat taxi to take you to La Pavona (approximately 1 hour). Upon arrival at La Pavona, drive south on Route 32 towards Guapiles. Continue on Route 32, then take Route 10 towards Barra del Colorado. Follow the signs leading you to Barra del Colorado, which is about 50 km from Guapiles. Once you arrive in Barra del Colorado, look for signs directing you to the Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre Barra del Colorado. Ensure you have a map or GPS to assist you.

Public Transportation
Start your journey by taking a boat taxi from Tortuguero to La Pavona. This can be arranged through your hotel or at the Tortuguero dock. After reaching La Pavona, catch a bus to Guapiles. Once in Guapiles, you can find a bus that heads towards Barra del Colorado. The bus ride will take approximately 2-3 hours. Once you arrive in Barra del Colorado, ask locals for directions to Refugio Nacional de Vida Silvestre Barra del Colorado, which is well-known in the area.
