The square is named after King Tomislav, the first king of Croatia, who united Croatian lands into one country and was crowned in 925 AD.The square is designed as a green park, forming part of the Lenuci horseshoe. The park provides a place for relaxation, featuring a central fountain. During the winter, the square hosts 'Ice Park Zagreb' as part of the Advent in Zagreb festivities.Dominating the square is a monument dedicated to King Tomislav, an equestrian statue that serves as a focal point. The Art Pavilion, built for the Budapest Millennial Exhibition in 1896 and later re-erected in Zagreb, marks the northern end of the square. The square has a rich history, initially named King Franz Joseph Square in 1895 to honor the Austro-Hungarian Emperor. It was later renamed to Trg Kralja Tomislava, reflecting Croatian national pride.
