Located on the western waterfront of Zadar, Croatia, the Sea Organ (Morske orgulje) is a one-of-a-kind architectural marvel that combines nature and human ingenuity. Created by architect Nikola Bašić and opened to the public in 2005, this experimental musical instrument produces harmonic sounds using the energy of the sea waves.The organ consists of a series of broad marble steps leading down to the Adriatic Sea. Concealed beneath these steps are 35 polyethylene tubes and resonating chambers. As waves enter the tubes, they create air pressure that produces a series of random but harmonic tones. The sounds are similar to a whale song. The music changes continuously depending on the tide, wind, and wave conditions, ensuring a unique auditory experience with each visit.The Sea Organ is more than just a musical instrument; it's a place for relaxation, contemplation, and connection with nature. Visitors can sit on the marble steps, listen to the soothing sounds of the sea, and enjoy the beautiful views of the Adriatic. The adjacent Greeting to the Sun, another installation by Bašić, creates a spectacular light show after sunset, complementing the sounds of the Sea Organ.

Getting There
Walking
From the city center, a leisurely walk along the Riva (waterfront promenade) will lead you directly to the Sea Organ. As you stroll along the coast, you'll pass green parks, cafes, and the Roman Forum. The Sea Organ is located at the western end of the Riva and is easily identifiable by its broad marble steps leading into the sea. The walk is approximately 590 meters and takes about 7 minutes.
Public Transport
From the Zadar Bus Station, take the Line 2 bus towards the city center. Get off at the Zadar - Istarska obala stop, which is a short walk to the Sea Organ. The bus ride takes approximately 7 minutes and costs €1 - €2. Buses depart hourly.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available in Zadar. A taxi ride from the main bus station to the Sea Organ takes approximately 7 minutes and costs around €5 - €11. A taxi from the city center would be less.
