Getting there

Walking

Škor Square is centrally located in Stari Grad and easily accessible on foot from most points within the town. From the Stari Grad Ferry Port, walk along Obala Dr. Franje Tuđmana towards the town center. Continue onto Ul. Svetog Roka, then turn right onto Ul. Vicka Andrića. The square will be on your left. The walk is approximately 10-15 minutes. No costs are associated with walking.

Public Transport

If arriving at the Stari Grad Ferry Port, local buses connect the port to the town center. The bus stop is located near the ferry terminal. Take the bus towards Stari Grad town. The ride is short, and the bus will drop you off near the town center, from where it is a short walk to Škor Square. Bus fare is approximately 10kn.

Taxi

Taxis are available at the Stari Grad Ferry Port and throughout the town. A taxi ride from the ferry port to Škor Square is a short trip, costing approximately 50-70kn. Ensure the taxi is licensed and agree on the fare before starting your journey.

Overview

Škor Square, or Trg Veli Škor, is the most picturesque of Stari Grad's many little squares. Formed during the 17th and 18th centuries on what was once a shallow stretch of water, it served as a shipyard, lending the square its name. The word 'škor' comes from 'škver,' the Dalmatian term for shipyard.Surrounded by characteristic Dalmatian houses, complete with luminari (skylights) and sulars (stone terraces with stairs), the square exudes the charm of mythical Dalmatia. The architecture reflects Renaissance, Baroque, and folk styles, a testament to the island's layered history. Once home to nobles, it later housed the working class.Today, Škor Square is a protected cultural site and a vibrant hub. It serves as a backdrop for summer cultural events, including concerts, poetry readings, and wine tastings. Visitors can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, explore the quaint cafes, and soak in the local ambiance.
