Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from any major city in Istria, such as Pula, Rovinj, or Opatija. From Pula, take the D66 road heading northwest toward Pazin. Follow the D66 until you reach the junction with the D500 road. Turn onto D500 and follow the signs to Motovun. The drive takes approximately 45 minutes. Upon arrival, you will find parking options available at the foot of the hill; however, be aware that the old town is pedestrian-only, so you will need to walk up the hill to reach the main attractions.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, you can catch a bus from Pula to Motovun. You will first need to travel to Pazin by bus, which takes about 30 minutes. From Pazin, transfer to a local bus that goes directly to Motovun. Please check the bus schedules in advance as they may vary. Once in Motovun, you will need to walk up to the town as the bus stops at the base of the hill.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a taxi from nearby cities like Poreč or Rovinj. This option can be more expensive, typically costing around 30-50 euros depending on your starting location. The taxi will take you directly to Motovun, where you can either be dropped off at the base of the hill or at the entrance of the town.

  For the more adventurous, consider renting a bicycle in a nearby town such as Poreč or Rovinj. There are scenic cycling routes through the Istrian countryside that lead to Motovun. The ride can be challenging due to the hilly terrain, but it offers beautiful views along the way. Ensure you have a good map or GPS system, and bring water and snacks for your trip. The ride takes approximately 1-2 hours depending on your speed and route taken.
