The name 'Twin Gate' derives from its distinctive design, featuring two arches side-by-side.Unlike many other ancient gates, the Twin Gate has been remarkably preserved. Its sturdy construction and subsequent excavation in the 19th century have allowed it to stand the test of time. The gate now serves as a pedestrian passage, seamlessly connecting ancient Pula with the modern city. Walking through its arches is like stepping back in time, offering a tangible link to the city's Roman past.Originally, the Twin Gate led to the ancient Roman theater. Today, it opens to the Archaeological Museum and a park with tall cedar trees. A partially restored octagonal mausoleum from the 1st-2nd century AD has been found near the gate. The gate itself is adorned with semi-columns and composite capitals, showcasing the architectural style of the Roman era. Above the arches, the slots for the portcullis, which once secured the gate, are still visible.
