Discover more about Zambartas Wineries

Zambartas Wineries, located in the charming village of Agios Amvrosios, is a testament to Cyprus's rich winemaking heritage and the Zambartas family's dedication to producing exceptional wines. Founded in 2006 by Akis Zambartas, a pioneer in Cypriot oenology, the winery has quickly gained recognition for its commitment to quality, sustainable practices, and the preservation of indigenous grape varieties. The story of Zambartas Wineries is deeply rooted in family tradition and a passion for showcasing the unique terroir of Cyprus. Akis Zambartas, after a distinguished career in the wine industry, embarked on a mission to create wines that would reflect the island's distinct character. His son, Marcos Zambartas, joined the family business, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and experience gained from his studies in Australia and his work in wineries around the world. Together, they have built a winery that seamlessly blends tradition and innovation. The winery's location in Agios Amvrosios, nestled in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains, is ideal for grape growing. The village is part of the Krasochoria, or "wine villages," of Limassol, an area renowned for its long history of viticulture. The dry climate, high altitude, and unique soil composition contribute to the production of grapes with intense flavors and aromas. Zambartas Wineries is committed to sustainable viticulture practices, ensuring the health of the vineyards and the quality of the grapes. The winery manages over 13 hectares of vineyards, tended organically by a dedicated team. They focus on indigenous grape varieties such as Xynisteri, Maratheftiko, and Yiannoudi, as well as international varieties that thrive in the region. The winemaking process at Zambartas is a careful balance of science and art. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted to ensure only the best fruit is used. The wines are fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged in oak barrels, allowing them to develop their full potential. The winery produces a range of white, red, and rosé wines, each with its own distinct character and flavor profile. Visitors to Zambartas Wineries can enjoy a variety of experiences, including guided tours of the vineyards and winery, wine tastings, and food and wine pairings. The knowledgeable and friendly staff are passionate about sharing their love of wine and providing guests with an informative and enjoyable experience. Wine tasting experiences include the 'On the go' tasting, the 'Winemaker's Selection' and the 'Food and Wine Matching' experience. The 'Winemaker's Selection' includes a barrel sample of Commandaria, a traditional Cypriot dessert wine. The winery's tasting room offers stunning views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains, creating a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Guests can sample a selection of Zambartas's award-winning wines, accompanied by local cheeses, olives, and other delicacies. The winery also hosts events throughout the year, such as harvest festivals and wine-pairing dinners, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Cypriot culture. Zambartas Wineries has received numerous accolades for its wines, both locally and internationally. The winery's wines have been awarded medals at prestigious competitions such as the Decanter World Wine Awards and the Thessaloniki International Wine Competition. These awards are a testament to the Zambartas family's commitment to quality and their ability to produce wines that stand out on the world stage. Beyond its commitment to quality and sustainability, Zambartas Wineries is also dedicated to preserving Cyprus's winemaking heritage. Akis Zambartas played a pivotal role in identifying and recording 13 lost Cypriot indigenous grape varieties, helping to ensure their survival for future generations. The winery continues to work with local farmers to source indigenous grapes and promote their use in winemaking. Agios Amvrosios itself is a charming village with a rich history and culture. Visitors can explore the village's narrow streets, admire the traditional stone houses, and visit the 14th-century church dedicated to Agios Amvrosios, the bishop of Mediolanon. The village is also home to several tavernas serving traditional Cypriot cuisine, providing a taste of local life.
