Under British rule, it was repurposed as a prison from 1892 to 1903. Later, it provided refuge for poor families. In the 1990s, a comprehensive restoration transformed it into a thriving arts center.Today, Büyük Han is a hub of cultural activity. Visitors can explore the inner courtyard, admire the stone arches, and discover the small mosque with its ablutions fountain. The ground floor, once stables and storage, now hosts cafes and artisan shops selling locally sourced crafts. The upper level, originally sleeping quarters, houses galleries and workshops. Cultural events, including music performances and art exhibitions, are frequently held, especially during the summer.
