The Troodos Botanical Garden, officially named the Troodos Botanical Garden “A.G. Leventis”, is a captivating sanctuary located within the Troodos National Forest Park. Situated near the abandoned Amiantos asbestos mine, it represents a blend of conservation, education, and recreation. Established in 2004, the garden aims to protect and promote the botanical heritage of Cyprus, with a focus on the native flora of the Troodos region. At an elevation of 1,400 meters, the garden benefits from a unique mountainous climate that supports a diverse range of plant species. The garden is part of the Natura 2000 network of protected areas, highlighting its ecological significance. The garden is divided into thematic sections, including endemic plants, riverine vegetation, an arboretum, and aromatic and traditional garden plants. Visitors can explore the Visitor Center and Herbarium, view exhibits detailing the history of the Amiantos mine and its restoration, and watch a documentary about the flora of the Troodos mountain range.
