Discover more about Nový Dvůr Arboretum

The Nový Dvůr Arboretum, a part of the Silesian Museum in Opava, invites visitors to explore a diverse collection of trees and plants from around the globe. Situated in Stěbořice, the arboretum spans 23 hectares and features over 7,000 species from five continents. The arboretum's history began between 1906 and 1928 when Quido Riedel, the owner of the Nový Dvůr estate, established a park with around 500 native and exotic plant species. In 1958, the Silesian Museum took over the site, transforming it into the arboretum. The area was expanded, and in the years 1965–1969, an entrance area with a parking lot, an exhibition pavilion, and a network of park paths were built. The arboretum is divided into geographical sections, including "Trees of the Five Continents," displaying species from North America, Siberia, Japan, and the Himalayas. Visitors can admire giant sequoias, one of the largest collections of rhododendrons in the Czech Republic, cedars, and Wollemia nobilis, one of the oldest plants in the world. The site also features a collection of old local fruit varieties, an alpine garden, and a herb garden. The greenhouse complex displays subtropical and tropical plants. The arboretum is open year-round, with seasonal hours. The site is partially accessible to visitors with disabilities, with the greenhouse and exhibition building fully accessible.
