Discover more about Skučák

Nestled in the heart of Czech Silesia, Skučák stands out as a captivating nature reserve that invites visitors to explore its lush landscapes and diverse wildlife. This serene haven is adorned with tranquil ponds, where swans and a variety of birds gracefully glide through the water, creating a picturesque scene that delights nature enthusiasts. With well-maintained walking paths and inviting spaces for relaxation, Skučák serves as an ideal spot for leisurely strolls amidst vibrant flora and fauna. The Skučák natural reserve is an ecosystem of ponds and surrounding wetlands. The reserve is home to many protected species of plants and animals and is an important location for nesting and migrating water birds. Families will find joy in watching playful ducks and seagulls, as well as opportunities for kids to engage with the local wildlife. The reserve's visually appealing environment promotes a delightful experience for all ages, making it a perfect retreat for those seeking tranquility or an adventurous outing. Until the 1950s, the ponds, including Skučák, were farmed in a semi-intensive manner. At that time, farming was further intensified, and the pond was transformed into a breeding facility, which led to a decline in rare animals and plants. In 1969, the Skučák pond became a state natural reserve. However, this change did not prevent the pond from being treated carelessly. Despite the prohibitions, the pond was fertilized with manure and slurry in amounts of up to several thousand liters per year, the water was limed, and too many fish were planted, including the herbivorous white amur. Whether it's enjoying a peaceful walk, cycling, or simply unwinding to the soothing sounds of nature, Skucak exemplifies the essence of a restorative escape from the everyday hustle and bustle.
