Getting There

Walking

The Prelatura is located in the Inner Town of Český Krumlov on Horní Street, easily accessible on foot from the main square (Náměstí Svornosti). From the square, walk northeast on Horní Street; the Prelatura will be on your right. The walk is short and straightforward, taking only a few minutes. Note that the historic center has pedestrian-only zones.
Public Transport

If arriving by bus, the Český Krumlov bus station is approximately a 13-minute walk to Svornosti Square. From there, follow the walking directions. If arriving by train, the train station is about a 35-minute walk to the square. Alternatively, take a local bus from the Špičák stop to shorten the walk. Bus tickets within the town cost approximately 20 CZK.
Taxi

Taxis are available in Český Krumlov. A taxi from the bus or train station to the Prelatura would cost approximately 150-200 CZK. Krumlov Taxi is one of the taxi services available.
Parking

If driving, parking is available in several paid parking lots (P1-P7) near the historic center. Parking lots P1 (Jelenka) and P2 (Post Office) are closest, about a 5-10 minute walk to the Prelatura. The first 40 minutes are free, then it costs 40-50 CZK per hour, or 280 CZK for a daily ticket. Note that the historic center has a pedestrian-only zone, so driving directly to the Prelatura is not possible.

The Prelatura, located on Horní 155 in Český Krumlov, stands as a testament to the town's rich ecclesiastical history and architectural evolution. Perched on a rocky prominence above the Vltava River, the building comprises two wings, ranging from one to three stories, surrounding a trapezoidal courtyard. Originally built in the Gothic style, the Prelatura underwent gradual remodeling, resulting in a blend of architectural styles. The Neo-Renaissance facade, adorned with sgraffiti and rose motifs dating back to 1576, reflects a restoration from around 1900. Inside, visitors can discover remnants of the building's Gothic origins, such as the remains of three Gothic windows with original stone tracery from the 14th century. The Prelatura also features notable Rococo elements, including a loggia in the courtyard built in 1769 and the Prokyš Hall, adorned with Rococo frescoes by František Jakub Prokyš. Commemorative plaques within the courtyard pay homage to prelates who contributed to the building's restoration after fires in 1665 and 1768, as well as the reopening of the prelatory brewery in 1865. Today, the Prelatura serves as a museum and cultural center, hosting exhibits of local art, historical artifacts, and stories of Český Krumlov. It also houses the Municipal Gallery and classrooms used by the Municipal Library.
