Discover more about Vysílač Kleť

Vysílač Kleť isn't just a broadcasting tower; it's a landmark that has played a significant role in the region's history and continues to be a vital part of its present. Standing at 172 meters tall, this steel structure was erected in 1977 near the peak of Kleť Mountain (1087 meters), within the Blanský les Protected Landscape Area. Its predecessor, a 115-meter tower built in 1958, was dismantled shortly after the current one began operations. The tower is easily visible from surrounding towns like Křemže, Chlum, and Český Krumlov, and even from more distant locations such as České Budějovice. In August 1968, the original tower served as the last refuge for free anti-occupation broadcasting. Today, Vysílač Kleť transmits television and radio signals across South Bohemia. Kleť Mountain itself offers more than just the tower. The Josefova věž observation tower, the oldest stone observation tower in Bohemia, is located nearby. The Kleť Observatory, one of the highest observatories in the Czech Republic, is also close to the summit. Visitors can reach the summit via hiking trails or the chairlift from Krasetín.
