Discover more about Denis Gardens

Denis Gardens, originally known as Park Františkov, holds a significant place in Brno's history as the first public park in Moravia and Bohemia, established in the early 19th century. The park was created by modifying the VIII bastion, a part of the city's fortifications. In 1919, it was renamed to honor Ernest Denis, a French historian who contributed to the establishment of Czechoslovakia. Today, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Brno, from Špilberk Castle to the Old Town. The park features a colonnade with a fountain and an obelisk erected in 1818 to commemorate the end of the Napoleonic Wars. A cross also commemorates Pope Benedict XVI's visit to Brno in 2009. The park's design includes serpentine paths, the Governor's Garden, and a water element with flowing stairs that enhance the ambiance and regulate the microclimate. Denis Gardens is easily accessible from the city center, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists. Whether seeking a peaceful retreat or a historical exploration, the gardens offer a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural significance.
