Discover more about Lovecký zámeček Belveder

Nestled on the edge of Valtice, the Lovecký zámeček Belveder is a captivating manor house with a rich history. Constructed between 1802 and 1806 by Prince Jan I of Liechtenstein, it was designed by architect Josef Hardtmuth. The lodge served as a center for the surrounding pheasantry, providing a space for aristocratic gatherings and post-hunt relaxation. The architecture of Belveder is an elegant example of the Empire style, characterized by its symmetrical design and refined details. The interior once boasted an octagonal hall adorned with illusionistic paintings by Johann Joseph Langenhöffel, a Viennese painter. These paintings, in the Pompeian style, added to the luxurious atmosphere of the lodge. Following a fire in 1894, the interiors were renovated and enhanced with rare silk Chinese wallpapers, rumored to have belonged to Marie Antoinette. After 1945, the manor fell into disrepair due to neglect. It was later managed by the Academy of Sciences, but suffered from unprofessional interventions. However, since 2018, the building has undergone extensive reconstruction, and it was opened to the public in June 2021. Today, visitors can appreciate the beautifully restored exterior and, at times, explore the interior during special events. The surrounding landscape offers picturesque views of Valtice and the nearby Mikulov, making it a worthwhile destination for those exploring the Lednice-Valtice area.
