Boubínský Prales, or Boubín Forest, is a unique nature reserve in the South Bohemian region of the Czech Republic. As one of the largest indigenous forests in Central Europe, it stands as a remnant of the ancient woodlands that once covered the continent. The forest is located on the southwestern slope of Mount Boubín, which rises to 1,362 meters. Established as a protected area in 1858, Boubínský Prales is the third oldest nature reserve in the Czech Republic. The forest is composed mainly of beech, spruce and fir trees, some of which are between 300 and 400 years old. The area offers well-marked trails that wind through lush greenery, providing panoramic views and a chance to connect with nature. Informative signs along the trails share insights into the local flora and fauna. The forest is home to diverse ecosystems and wildlife, including deer, boars, and various bird species. The heart of the forest is inaccessible to tourists and is enclosed by a wooden fence. However, a circular nature trail runs around the core, starting at Boubín Lake, a former water reservoir used for floating timber to a glass factory in Lenora.
