Getting There

    From Sušice's main square, follow the red-marked hiking trail, which will take you to the summit in approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Alternatively, take the yellow-marked educational trail 'Snake's Path'. Be prepared for an elevation gain of over 350 meters. Ensure you have suitable hiking boots and water.

  • Public Transport

    Take a bus from the Sušice bus station to the nearest stop, 'Svatobor'. Buses run frequently. From the bus stop, it is approximately a 30-minute walk (about 2 km) to the lookout tower. Follow the signs for Svatobor. A single bus fare within Sušice is approximately 20 CZK.

  • Car

    From the center of Sušice, follow the signs for Rozhledna Svatobor, which is about 5 km away. Drive along the road leading out of the town and take a left turn onto the road towards Svatobor. Continue straight until you reach the parking area near the base of the lookout tower. Parking is generally free. However, check for any local signs indicating charges.

The Svatobor Lookout Tower, located on the wooded Svatobor Hill (845m above sea level), is a major landmark in the Sušice region. The tower provides visitors with spectacular views of the surrounding Šumava countryside. From the top, you can see the lush forests, rolling hills, and the charming town of Sušice. The original lookout tower was built in 1894 but was demolished in 1934 due to structural issues. The current stone tower was constructed in just three months in the same year, according to the design of Sušice architect Karel Houra. In 1935, a chalet with a restaurant and guest rooms was added. Climbing the 182 steps to the top of the tower rewards you with a unique circular view, not only of the inland but also of the most famous peaks of Šumava – Poledník, Jezerní hora, and Pancíř. On a clear day, you can even see the Alps. Today, the Svatobor Lookout Tower is one of the most beautiful lookout towers in the Plzeň Region. The adjacent chalet offers traditional Šumava cuisine and accommodation. The surrounding area is perfect for hiking and exploring, making it an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts.
