Slavníkovské Hradiště, located near Libice nad Cidlinou, is an important archaeological site that offers a window into the early medieval history of Bohemia. This fortified settlement was once the heart of the Slavník family's power, rivals to the Přemyslid dynasty who eventually gained control of the region. Founded in the 9th century, the hradiště (gord) reached its peak in the 10th century, featuring a palatial residence, multiple churches, and even a mint where the Slavníks produced their own coinage. Today, visitors can explore the preserved foundations of key structures, including a church modeled after Saxon Ottonian architecture, a palace, and the main gate. A memorial to St. Adalbert (Vojtěch), a member of the Slavník family and a patron saint of Bohemia, stands on the grounds, featuring a bronze statue of Adalbert and his brother St. Radim. The site became an archeological reserve in 1961 and the acropolis was declared a national cultural monument in 1989.
