Lums Pond State Park, a sprawling 1,790-acre haven near Bear, Delaware, centers around Lums Pond, the state's largest freshwater pond. This scenic impoundment was created in the early 1800s to supply water to the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal's locks, connecting the Chesapeake Bay and Delaware River. Today, Lums Pond State Park is a year-round destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can explore over 10 miles of trails perfect for hiking, biking, and equestrian activities. The pond itself invites boating, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing, with rentals available for those without their own equipment. The area's history extends back to Native American communities who thrived on the St. Georges Creek before the pond's creation.
