Despite its name, the house isn't truly Dutch in design but rather a testament to the blending of cultures during the English occupation.Originally a one-story, timber-framed structure, the house has undergone several renovations throughout its history. In 1823, a full second floor was added, and the house was remodeled in the Federal style. Today, the museum is furnished with a collection of Dutch colonial antiques, offering visitors a unique experience. The exhibits include a kas (an unusual cupboard), a spoon rack, and a 1714 Bible, all reflecting the traditions and lifestyle of early America.The Dutch House is managed by the New Castle Historical Society and is open for guided tours on weekends from April through December. It stands as a property of national significance, revealing much about the earliest European building traditions in North America.
