Discover more about William V Roth Jr. Bridge

The Senator William V. Roth Jr. Bridge, often called the Roth Bridge, gracefully stretches across the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal near St. Georges, Delaware. Completed in 1995, this concrete and steel cable-stayed bridge is not only a vital transportation link but also an architectural marvel that enhances the surrounding landscape. Named in 2006 after the late U.S. Senator William V. Roth Jr., the bridge stands as a testament to his commitment to Delaware's infrastructure. Roth was instrumental in securing federal funding for the project, and the bridge's completion significantly improved traffic flow in the region. The bridge is owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Roth Bridge boasts a main span of 750 feet and a total length of 4,650 feet. Its design, inspired by the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Florida, incorporates pre-cast concrete segments and a 3% climbing grade. The bridge has six traffic lanes and provides a 100-foot clearance above the canal, accommodating large ships. While Route 1 is a toll road, the Roth Bridge itself is toll-free, allowing local traffic to cross the canal without charge.
