Discover more about Dover international racetrack

Dover Motor Speedway, nicknamed the "Monster Mile," has been a staple of NASCAR racing since its completion in 1969. Built by Melvin L. Joseph, the track was initially known as Dover Downs International Speedway and shared grounds with a horse racing facility. The first NASCAR Cup Series race took place on July 6, 1969, marking the beginning of a long and storied history. Over the years, the speedway has undergone several transformations. In 1995, it became the first NASCAR track to switch from asphalt to a concrete surface, enhancing the racing experience. The concrete track provides a unique challenge to drivers, contributing to the track's demanding reputation. In 2002, the gaming and racing operations were split, leading to the renaming of the track to Dover International Speedway. In 2021, Speedway Motorsports, LLC (SMI) acquired Dover Motorsports. Today, Dover Motor Speedway has a seating capacity of 54,000. The venue offers a variety of events, including NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and ARCA Menards Series races. The speedway is located adjacent to Bally's Dover, offering visitors a variety of entertainment options.
