Discover more about Douglas-Charles Airport

Douglas-Charles Airport (DOM), formerly known as Melville Hall Airport, is located on the northeast coast of Dominica, nestled between the villages of Marigot and Wesley. Renamed on October 27, 2014, in honor of Prime Ministers Rosie Douglas and Pierre Charles, the airport symbolizes Dominica's history and aspirations. The Melville Hall area was selected as the site for Dominica's main airport in 1944 due to its extensive flat land. The facility opened on November 22, 1961, initially served by Douglas DC-3 Dakotas operated by BWIA. The completion of the Cross-Country Roadway from Belles to Marigot in 1958 was crucial for enabling the airport's construction. Over the years, Douglas-Charles Airport has undergone significant expansion and modernization. A major upgrade program, started in 2006, included expanding the terminal building, adding a new departure lounge, enhanced customs and immigration facilities, and a modernized check-in area. The runway and apron were extended, and new night landing and navigational aids were installed, allowing nighttime operations. The runway extension project was completed in 2024, increasing the runway length to 1,936 meters (6,352 feet), allowing larger aircraft, such as Boeing 737-700s, to operate. Today, Douglas-Charles Airport is a crucial hub for regional and international air traffic, connecting Dominica to various destinations across the Caribbean, North America, and beyond. Several airlines operate at the airport, including American Eagle with direct flights to Miami, and LIAT, Winair, Air Antilles, and InterCaribbean Airways providing regional connectivity. The airport offers various facilities and services, including spacious waiting areas, food and beverage outlets, car rental services, and taxi services. The Executive Lounge Dominica offers complimentary Wi-Fi, beverages, and snacks.
