Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the nearest town or city in the Central Mountain Range, such as Jarabacoa. From Jarabacoa, head south on the Carretera Jarabacoa-Río Yaque del Norte (Route 1). Follow this road for approximately 30 minutes until you reach the junction with Route 1D. Take Route 1D to the east, which will lead you towards Cordillera Central. The journey should take about 1 hour in total from Jarabacoa, and be sure to enjoy the scenic views along the way.
Public Transportation
For those relying on public transportation, you can take a ‘carro publico’ (shared taxi) from Jarabacoa to La Vega. Once in La Vega, you will need to find a bus or another shared taxi heading toward Santiago. From Santiago, you can catch a bus to the area near Cordillera Central. Make sure to ask the driver to drop you off at a convenient location close to Cordillera Central, as exact stops may vary. The total travel time may take around 2-3 hours depending on connections, and expect to pay around 100-300 Dominican Pesos (approximately $2-5 USD) for the various segments.
Hiking/Walking
If you are adventurous, once you get to the nearest access point of Cordillera Central, you may need to hike to reach some of the more remote areas within the mountain range. Ensure that you have proper hiking gear, sufficient water, and food supplies. Trails can vary in difficulty, so it is advisable to check local maps or inquire with a guide in the area for the best routes. Always inform someone of your plans before heading out.
