Car
If you are traveling by car from the Amazon region, head towards the nearest city with access to a ferry service to the Galápagos Islands. You can drive to either Quito or Guayaquil, which are the main departure points. From the Amazon, take the E45 road to Puyo and then connect to the E28 to reach Quito or Guayaquil. Expect the drive to take approximately 8-12 hours, depending on your location in the Amazon and traffic conditions. Once in Quito or Guayaquil, you will need to park your car at a designated parking area and proceed to the airport or ferry terminal.
Public Transportation
To reach Parque Nacional Galápagos using public transportation, start by taking a bus from your location in the Amazon to either Quito or Guayaquil. Buses from various towns in the Amazon to Quito or Guayaquil are frequent and typically cost between $10-25. Once you arrive at the bus terminal in either city, you can take a taxi or local transportation to the airport (for flights) or to the ferry terminal (for boat transport). Flights to the Galápagos Islands are available from both Quito (Mariscal Sucre International Airport) and Guayaquil (José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport). Expect to pay around $400-600 for a round-trip flight to the Galápagos. If you choose to take a ferry, make sure to book in advance as they can fill up quickly, and the cost is about $30-50 per person.
Flight
From either Quito or Guayaquil, you will need to book a flight to the Galápagos Islands. There are two main airports in the Galápagos: Baltra (GPS) and San Cristóbal (SCY). Check with airlines such as Avianca, LATAM, or TAME for availability. Flights take about 2-3 hours. Upon arrival, you will need to pay a Galápagos National Park entry fee of $100 for adults, which is required to access the national park. After landing, you can take a bus to the ferry terminal if you are headed to Santa Cruz Island, or a taxi to your accommodation.
Ferry
If you arrive at Baltra Airport, you can take a bus to the Itabaca Channel, where ferries depart to Santa Cruz Island. The ferry ride costs about $1 and takes approximately 10-15 minutes. Once on Santa Cruz, you can take a taxi or bus to your accommodation or the Charles Darwin Research Station, which is a common starting point for exploring Parque Nacional Galápagos.
