Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the Cotopaxi National Park entrance. Follow the main road (E28) towards the Cotopaxi Volcano. After approximately 30 minutes, you'll reach the parking area (8H87+F4V) near the Limpiopungo Lagoon, where you can enjoy the view of the volcano. From here, you can take a short hike to get closer to the base of Volcan Cotopaxi.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can catch a bus from Latacunga to the Cotopaxi National Park. Buses leave regularly from the Latacunga bus terminal and will take you to the park entrance. Once at the park, you can either hike towards the volcano or hire a local guide for a more in-depth experience. Make sure to check the bus schedules as they can vary. The bus fare is usually around $1-2.
Hiking
If you're already in the park and want to hike, from the parking area at Limpiopungo Lagoon, follow the marked trail towards the base of Volcan Cotopaxi. The hike takes about 1-2 hours depending on your pace and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear and bring water.
Guided Tours
Consider booking a guided tour that includes transportation from Quito or Latacunga. Many tour operators offer packages that include transportation, entrance fees to the national park, and a guided hike up to the volcano. Prices vary, but expect to pay around $50-100 per person depending on the package.
