Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car from the Cotopaxi Region, start by heading towards the Pan-American Highway (E35). From Cotopaxi, take the E35 south towards Machachi. Continue on the E35 until you reach the junction with the E28, where you will take the exit towards Santo Domingo. Follow the E28 for approximately 90 kilometers. As you approach the coastline, look for signs directing you to Los Frailes Beach. The beach is located near the town of Puerto López. Follow the signs until you reach the entrance to the beach area. There may be a small parking fee at the beach entrance, typically around $5. Once parked, it’s a short walk to the beach.

  For those using public transportation, start at the main bus terminal in Latacunga, which is the capital of the Cotopaxi Province. Look for a bus heading towards Puerto López. The bus ride will take approximately 3-4 hours and typically costs around $5-$7. Once you arrive in Puerto López, you can either take a taxi or a local bus to Los Frailes Beach. The taxi ride from Puerto López to Los Frailes Beach will cost about $10-$15 and takes around 30 minutes. If you opt for a local bus, wait for a bus that indicates 'Los Frailes' on the route, which usually costs about $1 and takes approximately 45 minutes.
