Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the city of Ibarra, which is approximately 20 kilometers away from Cuicocha Lake. Head north on the E28 road for about 10 kilometers until you reach the town of Cotacachi. Once in Cotacachi, follow the signs towards Cuicocha Lake, which is located about 10 kilometers from the town center. The road will lead you through beautiful landscapes and the entrance to the Cuicocha Lake area will be clearly marked. There may be a small entrance fee, typically around $2 per person, which goes towards the maintenance of the park.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Cuicocha Lake via public transportation, start from Ibarra. Head to the main bus terminal and look for buses heading to Cotacachi. The bus fare is usually around $1.50 and the ride takes about 30 minutes. Once you arrive in Cotacachi, you can either take a taxi (approximately $10 for the trip) or catch a local bus that will take you closer to Cuicocha Lake. The local bus fare is approximately $0.50. Inform the driver of your destination, as the buses may not have clear signage.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route, you can hire a taxi from Ibarra or Cotacachi. From Ibarra, the taxi fare to Cuicocha Lake should be around $20-25, depending on negotiation and time of day. From Cotacachi, it may cost approximately $10-15. Ensure that you agree on the price before starting your journey. Taxis are a convenient option if you are traveling in a group or carrying heavy gear for hiking.
