Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from the city of Ibarra. Head north on the Pan-American Highway (E35) for about 10 km until you reach the town of Otavalo. From Otavalo, take the E28 road towards the village of San Pablo del Lago. Continue on this road for approximately 12 km, where you'll see signs directing you to Imbabura Volcano. You can park your car at the designated parking area near the base of the volcano. Note that there might be a small parking fee of around $2.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a bus from Ibarra to Otavalo, which leaves frequently and costs about $1. Once in Otavalo, find the bus terminal and take a bus heading towards San Pablo del Lago (the fare is about $0.50). Inform the bus driver of your destination, Imbabura Volcano, and they will drop you off at the closest point. From there, it's a short hike to the base of the volcano. Be prepared for a scenic walk of about 30 minutes. Make sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they may vary, especially on weekends.

• Hiking

  If you are adventurous and want to hike to Imbabura Volcano, you can start your trek from the village of San Pablo del Lago. The hike is approximately 6 km to the summit and takes about 2-3 hours depending on your pace. The trail is well-marked, but it's advisable to go with a guide or at least with a group. Make sure to bring water, snacks, and appropriate hiking gear. There may be a small fee (around $5) for entering the protected area.
