Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from the city of Macas, Morona Santiago. Head west on the E45 highway towards Sucúa. Continue for approximately 30 kilometers until you reach the town of Sucúa. From Sucúa, take the road towards Dos Cuevas, following signs for Parque Nacional Cajas. After about 20 kilometers, you will arrive at the intersection of the road leading to the Mirador Tres Cruces. Follow the signs and drive for another 10 kilometers until you reach the parking area at Mirador Tres Cruces. Note that the roads may be unpaved and require careful driving, especially during rainy seasons.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, start by taking a bus from Macas to Sucúa. Buses leave frequently from the main terminal and the journey takes about 40 minutes. Once in Sucúa, you can take a taxi or a shared van (known as 'chivas') directly to Dos Cuevas. Confirm with the driver that they can drop you near the entrance to Parque Nacional Cajas. The fare for the taxi or shared van is typically around $5-$10, depending on the number of passengers. After arriving at Dos Cuevas, you will either need to hike or arrange a taxi to take you to the Mirador Tres Cruces, which is about 10 kilometers away.

• Hiking

  If you are an adventure seeker, you can hike to Mirador Tres Cruces from Dos Cuevas. Start at the center of Dos Cuevas and look for the trailhead marked for the Mirador. The hike is approximately 10 kilometers and can take around 3-4 hours, depending on your pace. Be prepared with proper hiking gear, water, and snacks. The trail can be steep and may require some physical effort, but the stunning views from the mirador are worth it. Be sure to check the weather conditions before you set out.
