Walking
The best way to explore Quito's Historic Center is on foot. Many attractions are within walking distance of each other. Begin at Plaza de la Independencia and explore the surrounding landmarks, such as the Government Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Archbishop's Palace. From there, walk to nearby attractions like the San Francisco Church and Plaza, and Calle La Ronda. Be prepared for uneven cobblestone streets and some hills.
Public Transport
Several bus lines connect to the Historic Center. The Trolebús and Ecovía are two main bus lines with stops in the Historic District. The Trolebús has stops at Central Bank, Plaza del Teatro, Plaza Chica, and Santo Domingo. The Ecovía has a stop called Marín Central. A single bus fare costs around $0.25 - $0.45 USD. You pay at the entrance to the station or inside the bus, depending on the line.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available and relatively affordable in Quito. A short taxi trip within the city generally costs $1.50 to $5 USD. Always ensure the driver uses the meter or agree on a fare beforehand. Apps like Uber, Cabify, and InDrive are also available for a more secure and predictable service.
