Getting There

  • Bus & Taxi

    From Quito, take a bus from Terminal Terrestre Quitumbe south to Latacunga. Ask the driver to drop you off at the El Chasqui entrance of Cotopaxi National Park. From there, hire a taxi to reach specific attractions within the park; negotiate the fare beforehand, as there's no public transport inside. Expect to pay $8-$15 for a ride to the park entrance or museum. Bus fare from Quito to the park entrance is approximately $2.

  • Driving

    Drive south from Quito on the Pan-American Highway (E35) for about 1.5 to 2 hours. Look for signs to Cotopaxi National Park near Machachi. The main southwest gate is the most common entry point. Be aware that from the highway, it's about 15-20 km on unpaved roads to the park's control point. There is no admission fee to enter the park. Parking is available at main attractions like Limpiopungo Lagoon.
