Parque Arqueológico Rumipamba is an important archaeological site located in Quito, Ecuador. The name "Rumipamba" comes from the Quechua language and means "stone plain". This open-air museum spans 32 hectares and displays vestiges from various archaeological periods dating back from 1500 BCE to 1500 CE.In 1990, the land was intended for apartment buildings, but construction was halted when human remains were found. Ecuadorian archaeologist Alfredo Santamaría led excavations, revealing graves, pottery, and tools, indicating multiple civilizations had occupied the site. In 2001, Rumipamba was established as an open-air archaeological museum.Visitors can explore covered excavations and ongoing digs, hoping to uncover more about the volcanic eruptions that forced ancient tribes to relocate. Replicas of huts made of wood, adobe, and straw offer a glimpse into the past. The park also features native vegetation, attracting various bird species. Educational plaques provide insights into the site's history and significance. The on-site archaeological museum displays artifacts and provides information about the region's history.
